“I’m Dizzy”

3/31/2008

My feet hurt! First full say in Hong Kong. It’s an amazing city. First we went up some big hill on a train that goes up an insanely steep angle. Will be cool to see how it compares to the trains in Switzerland. After that we went to the giant Buddha. It’s really quite awesome. Everyone says how big it is but you really don’t realise how massive it is until you see it yourself. We also went to see the light show. I wish I had some pics of that but they all turned out crappy… might have to steal one of Rheeces.

Places like McDonalds and KFC are so much better than home. The menu has way more items on it and a lot of tem are better too. KFC for example, rice and pasta dishes. McDonalds even have cups of corn!

Yummy

3/30/2008

Hong Kong smells. It’s very strong, and the humidity doesn’t help at all. Today it was only 27 degrees but it felt hotter than 35. It’s really thick, you can nearly swim in it. Sometimes it’s overwhelming, when a big bus passes and a pocket of air hits you, or when something a little too strong wafts out of some exotic shop.

Speaking of exotic, today was my first taste of Hong Kong cuisine. There was some little shop and I ordered “2 items with noodles”. After some… negotiating… with the lady on what I actually get with that. Turns out I get a choice of 2 different things from a selection of about 10. None were really what I would call great looking, and in fact none of them looked familiar except the sausages and chicken wings. I chose 2 at random. One looked like… kinda like chicken skin boiled and the other looked like a meatball of sorts but was white and certainly didn’t contain any normal meat. It was pretty good though, might go back and try a few of the others later

Octopus

3/29/2008

Finally we’re in the hotel we’ll be staying in. After quite a bit of effort that is. Here are my current whinges. Rheece forgot to put money on the card he was going to be using to pay for the rooms so we were sitting in the lobby for a while. The free Wi-Fi internet in the hotel turned into free Wi-Fi in the lobby, which then turned into 2 PCs in the lobby to use the net, also Wi-Fi in the rooms cost money every 24 hours! Not only that but it’s limited to 1 PC and its super slow. I would have thought it would be much better connected around here. The room is way smaller than the picture.

Now for the good stuff. Food is so cheap! McDonald’s burgers work out to be round $1.50-$2.5AUD. Also there are amazingly massive buildings everywhere you look. Compare it to Melbourne which has 4-5 skyscrapers, Hong Kong has hundreds easily. Some even made entirely of brick. It’s really impressive to see such massive buildings made out of bricks with shiny glass windows. While the crazy bus driver drove through Hong Kong to our hotel there in the middle of nowhere is a massive boat just sitting there, and I thought Melbourne has some random art in the city.

OH and octopus cards… What an invention. It’s like a pre-paid money card solution which works just about anywhere. You don’t even need to take it out of your wallet, just run it by the scanner at any McDonalds, supermarket, train station… too cool.

The Valley

7 and a half hours later of flight, Rheece and Joel are already complaining. Oh, here is a bit of back story on the flight experience the gang. Rheece has been to Hong Kong and apparently knows everything about it. I have been to Switzerland and know very little about it, Joel hasn’t been anywhere and thus knows nothing about anywhere.

Anyway Rheece, traveller extraordinaire, is sick as a dog and complaining about lack of sleep and on top of that he is in the window seat and for some reason having to get something out of his bag every few seconds followed by a trip to the loo. Joel is having a whinge about not being able to sleep as well. Joel is the kind of person that must get 9 hour of sleep a night or he won’t even get out of bed. It’s currently been nearly 24 hours and he is yearning for some sleeping. To the point where he even wants to have a little nap s soon as we get our hotel in Hong Kong. I would say this was ok however; we’re getting there around midday. What a waste if you go to bed and waste the start of the city!

I managed to get a couple of hours sleep on the flight, which I guess is cool because now waiting at the Singapore airport waiting for the next flight to Hong Kong, Joel and Rheece are sprawled out on the floor and I’m typing this, looking after our gear. I hate long flights.

I wonder if it’s condition of the job at Singapore airlines that to be a flight hostess you must be extremely skinny (though I guess that would help with the aisle walking, and must also look the same as all the rest of them. I think they have a hostess factory that just pumps them out one after the other. Same makeup, same outfits, same body, same hair, its uncanny!

Big Things

3/28/2008

Seems like forever since we left when really it’s only been around 7 hours. Right now I’m sitting in seat, listening to someone taking a survey on quality control on the Melbourne airport with Joel. It’s quite amusing as this is not only his first international flight but his second time in this airport.

Random musing: Massive planes look tiny from inside the terminal.

It Starts

I have left. The tiny plane we went on from Albury to Melbourne was so tiny, no leg room, and got cramps after bout 3 seconds. Luckily it was over in about 30 minutes. I’m already tired and now i have to wait for the nextflight which isnt for 7 and half hours. im bored…im bored! thought it is kinda entertaining watching Joel try to figure out how to use his massive new camera, taking sneaky shots of passerbys. I might try to figure out how to get a stop motion movie of where I am right now… that would be kinda cool. battery is getting low so might stop now bye!

Season 1 Finale

3/26/2008

Tomorrow is the last day of work before my trip and it reminds me in a lot of ways of the season finale to a sitcom. I am leaving on a holiday around the world for 5 weeks. Steve will be alone at the warehouse for 5 weeks. (this is assuming I don’t get fired or quit while I’m gone) Brads new shop has opened selling a new and untested product in the area, which even got robbed only after the first few days of opening.

What’s going to happen on Tims trip? Will he come back safely or at all? Will Steve be able to cope by himself in the warehouse? How will Brad go in the new shop? Is everything going to end badly or will the ending be smiles for everyone?

Find out in 5 weeks when season 2 starts.

In Dreams Again

3/16/2008

I had a pretty lengthy dream last night. I even created a little diagram to better explain the scenario.

I was on an island (more…)

Audiosurf

3/11/2008

Audiosurf is a really sweet game. It creates a level for you to play on depending on whatever song you pump into the game. Want to play a stage based from the theme from power rangers? Sure. Any song, any genre. Slow songs make the trip smooth and calm, hard rocking songs make it a fast and bumpy ride, lets not even get into the randomness of electronica. It’s a puzzle sort of game based around quick reflexes and fast thinking. Plenty of game modes to! Get it, its heaps good.

Here is one I prepared earlier. The object of that mode is to miss all the grey blocks and collect all the coloured ones.

Linkage

3/9/2008

So I have rearranged my links on the side <—- Since my recent observation with the archives getting too massive, my links and other important (and some not so important) were ever so surely being pushed into the abyss that is the bottom of the page. Also Losers is no longer there since they died, its sad my most favorite online comic ended that way but i guess thats how things happen in the online world!

Oh and I also added more me, my youtube and facebook page for all those interested in seeing that kind of thing. Oh I might add my photobucket there too… if it’s there then i added it after writing this, if it isnt then i couldnt be bothered and played Tibia instead. This is the first of many improvements to come! (maybe)
