Octopus

3/29/2008

Finally we’re in the hotel we’ll be staying in. After quite a bit of effort that is. Here are my current whinges. Rheece forgot to put money on the card he was going to be using to pay for the rooms so we were sitting in the lobby for a while. The free Wi-Fi internet in the hotel turned into free Wi-Fi in the lobby, which then turned into 2 PCs in the lobby to use the net, also Wi-Fi in the rooms cost money every 24 hours! Not only that but it’s limited to 1 PC and its super slow. I would have thought it would be much better connected around here. The room is way smaller than the picture.

Now for the good stuff. Food is so cheap! McDonald’s burgers work out to be round $1.50-$2.5AUD. Also there are amazingly massive buildings everywhere you look. Compare it to Melbourne which has 4-5 skyscrapers, Hong Kong has hundreds easily. Some even made entirely of brick. It’s really impressive to see such massive buildings made out of bricks with shiny glass windows. While the crazy bus driver drove through Hong Kong to our hotel there in the middle of nowhere is a massive boat just sitting there, and I thought Melbourne has some random art in the city.

OH and octopus cards… What an invention. It’s like a pre-paid money card solution which works just about anywhere. You don’t even need to take it out of your wallet, just run it by the scanner at any McDonalds, supermarket, train station… too cool.
