This day started off great, went lame and then completely made up for it in the end.
“Hello could I have 50 shots with an UZI please?” That’s a sentence I would never say in Australia but in The Gun Store it happens every day. It’s the first thing I said to the lady, she then proceeded to charge me money and then just handed over the ammunition. We stepped into the range and shot at a target shaped like Osama. It’s quite a rush shooting a full-auto gun. After that I shot few rounds with a Desert Eagle hand gun. Pretty hefty little fella but very accurate.
After that we went to the Star Trek Experience. I thought it was really lame but we were there for Rheece like he went to Nintendo world for me. He said he enjoyed it so that’s good I suppose.
We bummed around for a lot of the day after that, had massive buffet dinner and then went out on the strip to see the lights. At the top of the strip was MGM Hotel where David Copperfield happened to have started a show yesterday. $99.25 later I had a ticket in hand and was walking into the show room. What an amazing show it was too. My damn memory is already fading so while I can still remember mostly, here is the list of tricks he performed;
- Before the show started a little box was pulled into the sky with a chest inside and tonnes of locks all around. we wondered hat it was but nothing happened.
- The show started and There was a giant box, they span it around showing it from all angles, you could see behind below and all around it. They pulled a sheet over and DC appeared inside the box on a motorbike.
- He got a, what seemed like, solid sheet of steel. Got some audience members to hit it with a hammer then he put it over the top of the box and he climbed in underneath. Pulled sheet over, not all the way though we could still see underneath it. Then he went up through the steel sheet and ended up on top of it.
- He brought on stage a shoe from when he was a little kid and put it in his back pocket. Then he got a ring from a member of the audience and did the little “vanishing trick” where he passes it from one hand to the next and it’s gone. His hands didn’t go anywhere near the shoe in his back pocket but when he turned around it was tied around the laces of the shoe.
- Then he got a tie from an audience member and proceeded to make it dance around the stage. Singing and moving along with the music. Couldn’t see any strings and it was moving far too fast to be manipulated with some sort of mechanical device. The tie was dancing and while it was dancing it got placed inside a glass box, it didn’t stop dancing even when the solid lid was put on top.
- 2 audience members got called up onto stage and they held a black scorpion in a box. He also had a deck of cards, he got one of the ladies to take one of the cards at random and show it around. Then he put the cards back in the deck and got her to shuffle them. Then he twisted the cards in a spiral type thing and clipped them closed. DC took the scorpion out of the box and the scoprion pulled the right card from the deck.
- He got inside a box. You could see all around it, top bottom back and front they span it around a few times and he got inside. Then he crushed the box so he was about 1 foot long. His head was sticking out one side and his feet were sticking out the other side and his arms were sticking out the top the whole time.
- DC threw frizbees out to the audience at random and they came up to the stage Then he threw out one frizbee and asked the dude to pick 2 numbers and if he wore boxers or breifs and what colour. He asked that guy to throw it into the audience to someone else. Asked them for 2 numbers and “the last time they got busy”. That guy then threw it again to some lady, 2 more numbers and what her birthday was. DC got the chest down from the ceiling that was in view the whole show and opened it, inside was a tape of him saying those exact numbers, coloured boxers, birthday and the last time the dude had banged. It also said it on a pair of number plates.
- The same guys then all stood around the stage, there was 2 big pillars in the middle. He got 2 guys to go underneath and grab hold of them so everyone knew they didn’t move. 2 sheets were pulled over and then they were pulled off moments later a car appeared on top of those pillars and he proceeded to climb in and turn the engine on. While he was doing the next trick some dudes came out with massive jacks to lower the car down, seemed pretty real.
- He walked over into the audience with a piece of tissue paper and got some girl to stand up. He crumpled it up and then made it float around in the air, over and under his arms and then up the arm of the lady. He uncrumpled it and folded it into some sort of flower and did the same, made it float around. This was projected onto a big screen but you could also look over into the crowd where he was and it looked unbelievable. Then he lit the flower on fire and it turned into a rose. That audience member got to keep it.
- At random intervals there was a duck that would come out onto the stage, it was used for the next trick. DC got another audience member and got them to hold a bucket He showed everyone how it was empty. He put that duck into a box across the stage, walked over to the bucket and pulled the duck out. Then he did it in “slow motion” with a plastic duck. He showed the bucket again, same bucket. He put the plastic duck into the bucket and then pulled out a live duck. The whole time one dude is standing there holding it. The bucket was pretty small and there is no way you’d be able to fit 2 ducks inside without causing them serious damage.
- 9 Beach balls were thrown out into the audience and were told to bounce them around until the music stopped. When the music stopped the random 9 people got into a box with chairs. They all had flashlights and were shining them towards the audience. A sheet was pulled over the top all the while you could see the lights. he clapped his hands and all the lights went out, he pulled the sheet off almost instantly and all the people were gone. I heard something from behind and there they were at the back of the audience.
It’s easy to say “yeah he just uses mirrors and strings, anyone could do that, check it on the Internet” but unless you go and see a magician like him perform live, you have no idea. I can confidently say it was worth every cent and I would absolutely go again to another show. Now I am aware there has to be some logical explanation for the things he did, but the things he did looked so impossible to do and yet he pulled them off without a clue as to how it was done. I can understand now, why people say he is the best magician out there.

I saw David Copperfield perform in Shanghai a few years ago!! it was amazing!! i agree, you cant beat magic tricks, and to be honest i would prefer not to know how they are done. i think he did the duck one for us too, and the motorbike one where he suddenly appears on his bike on the otherside of the room. david copperfield is awesome!!

I love magic it always makes me feel like anything is possible even though I know that magic is just “smoke and mirrors” it’s always alot of fun.
